Bio-LNG for more environmentally friendly heavy goods transport

MÜNSTER For more climate protection in road transport: the Westfalen Group from Münster has concluded a contract with revis bioenergy GmbH, also based in Münster, for the purchase ofCO2-neutral bio-LNG.
The company is thus driving forward its own contribution to an energy and transport transition.
Westfalen has been strengthening the expansion of the infrastructure for sustainable drive energies for years and, in addition to the charging infrastructure for electric vehicles, hydrogen and LPG, is also focusing on the expansion of filling stations for biogas in the form of CNG (compressed natural gas) and LNG (liquefied natural gas). revis as a strong partner With revis bioenergy GmbH, Westfalen has gained a strong partner for an expanded range of sustainable energies that specializes in the operation of biogas and biomethane plants using residual and waste materials.
“As a producer and marketer of green gases and fuels, we will take over the liquefaction of the biomethane produced. We are very positive about the collaboration and are delighted to have gained a reliable partner in Westfalen AG,” says Simon Detscher, Managing Director of revis. Conversion toCO2-neutral bio-LNG planned In heavy goods transport, LNG is currently the only available fuel alternative to diesel that can be used on a large scale.
In the past two years, the Westfalen Group has already put four LNG filling stations into operation at conveniently located sites close to freeways in Münster, Herford, Herne and Cologne.
The company intends to further expand the infrastructure for LNG and is therefore already planning further specific locations.
All facilities are open around the clock and have two covered filling stations.
So far, only fossil LNG has been offered.
Westfalen will replace the previous product withCO2-neutral bio-LNG from revis in the course of the year.
“Compared to diesel, theCO2 savings of LNG are already around 20 percent; with the use of bio-LNG, it can even be up to 100 percent.
In addition, hardly any particulate matter and nitrogen oxides are produced when burning LNG,” explains Andre Stracke, Head of Mobility at the Westfalen Group.
“We see the future nationwide availability of bio-LNG at our filling stations as an attractive,CO2-neutral offer for our mobility customers,” Stracke continues.
By using bio-LNG, freight forwarders and logistics companies can offer their customers freight services in a much more sustainable way and thus achieve competitive advantages.
In addition to the environmental aspects, the financial side also plays a major role: the price of fossil LNG has come under significant pressure in light of geopolitical developments over the past year.
Stracke: “By switching to bio-LNG, we are very confident that we will be able to offer a competitive price to fossil diesel.” Further information on LNG Haulage companies and fleet operators have been able to register their LNG requirements for additional locations on the website www.westfalen.com/lng for some time now. The Westfalen Group then checks the feasibility of the requests, coordinates everything necessary with the stakeholders to be involved and looks for additional tank customers to enable construction and operation.
